What is the purpose of The Urban Gospel Mission?
The Urban Gospel Mission desires to build the bridge between the gospel and urban culture by presenting articles, videos, testimonies, music, and discussions that not only address cultural problems, but also point to solutions for each issue. We believe that our culture and society is crying for hope and a savior, and that hope and salvation is found in Jesus Christ. Therefore, to bring our society to this truth, we strive to provide culturally relevant, biblically sound, and highly practical content in order to lead people to a gospel explanation, which will transform their lives and then the world.
What does the word “urban” mean?
America is changing and urban is no longer limited to the inner city. Although the inner city is encompassed in the urban context, it no longer defines it holistically. Urban defines any area that is dense with population and diverse because of the density. Currently, more than 50 percent of the world’s population lives in urban areas. In 2030, 60 percent will live in urban areas. With gentrification, urban is no longer defined as just “black.” It is now defined by density, as all the cultures collide in the cities.
Is this website only for Christians?
No. The Urban Gospel Mission also speaks to a non-Christian and Christian audience. We will understand and address both controversial and menial trends and topics prevalent in urban culture- ranging from poverty, movies, education, music, fashion, politics, sports, community development, and the media.
How does The Urban Gospel Mission speak to Christians?
Instead of creating another anti-cultural movement of Christians who are afraid of culture or a counter-cultural movement of Christians who are on the defense of culture, our goal at The Urban Gospel Mission is to raise up a proactive-cultural movement of faithful believers who are transforming their culture and tearing down the wall which is the secular vs. sacred divide. In order to accomplish this, we will equip people with the tools and resources needed to affect long lasting change within their lives, friendships, relationships, families, communities, jobs, cities, governments, and world.
What makes The Urban Gospel Mission unique?
At the Urban Gospel Mission we publish articles, videos, and resources that are from a diversity of voices from different races and places across the country. We believe that God gave us our cultural and ethnic distinctive not so that we can separate into homogenous groups that segregate ourselves from those who are different from us, but rather to engage people who share our cultural distinctives in order to bring them into a culturally and ethnically diverse body, the family of God, which is made up of people from a diverse group of races and a diverse group of places. Therefore, our writers represent a simultaneous diversity of ethnicities; some that are white and some that are black; some that are Latino and some that are Asian; some that are from the city and some that are from the country; some that are young and some that are old; some that are male and some that are female. We do all these things to display to the world the glory of God through diversity.
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelations 7:9-10
